THE COMMERCIAL VIEW
What this route is designed to address
A securities-backed route can introduce third-party collateral where the borrower owns insufficient eligible assets. The contracts must define the instrument, term, control, costs and the obligations of each party; it is assessed together with the proposed loan.
Conditions worth exploring
- An underlying commercial loan that can be underwritten
- A clear collateral gap
- Matching collateral and loan terms
What to prepare first
- Borrowing and repayment requirements
- Existing collateral position
- Proposed term and currency
- Beneficial ownership and source of payments
The security does not replace assessment of the borrower. It is a structural component of an approved financing proposal.
Points to clarify early
Is securities lending the same as receiving a cash investment?+
No. The contracted use of a security can support a separate loan; it is not itself cash paid to the borrower.
Does an ISIN guarantee lending?+
No. Instrument eligibility, control, custody, borrower underwriting and formal approvals still matter.
